My Journey Toward Car Literacy

I Married A Car Guy: My Journey Toward Car Literacy

Welcome to the non-automotive automotive blog. My name is Debbie Nol, and I have been the Business Manager at Arie Nol Auto Center since 2000. I have a unique perspective, as I am not a ‘car person’ but work in an industry filled with people passionate about vehicles. It gives me the ability to share what I’ve learned over 20 years and hopefully help you navigate the world of car repair and maintenance more comfortably. However, posts will not always be vehicle related. I love to share observations and story’s from ‘auto world’ with shoes and cats thrown in for good measure.

I’m glad you’re here, and I look forward to you getting to know us a little bit better through this blog!

The Spring That Wasn't

The Spring That Wasn't

Does anyone else feel like we just skipped over Spring 2020? No Spring break. No vacations, graduations, or family reunions. It was odd in the automotive repair world as we usually are busy with vehicle inspections for long trips and checking air conditioning systems for the upcoming warmer weather. None of these things were necessary. The A/C system didn't really matter because most vehicles weren't leaving their driveway, no matter the weather.

You know what wasn't canceled? Time with family and the opportunity to get to the things on your 'home repair' list that you had put off until life slowed down. And then it did. Not by our choice, but it all came to a standstill for many people. With the many challenges that these times brought, they also brought some clarity to the things that were important.

Spring still showed up and the weather seemed to be similar to everything in 2020 so far. Unpredictable from day to day and most days, not really what we were hoping for. For us, it was an unusual experience to work with our customers in a non-contact manner. Since 1976, personal customer service has been our hallmark and it was a necessary but big adjustment for all of us to have all transactions done via phone, after-hours drop box and key lock box for pick up.

Now here we are. Summer has arrived, people are returning to work and businesses are reopening. Support the local small businesses in your neighborhood if you can. They need us and we need them. As the owner of a small business, we are actively working to support the local businesses that we love. We hope you do the same as we return to a semblance of normalcy. Here's hoping that the second half of 2020 doesn't resemble the first!
